Your rain barrel will need to be drained in the winter and the bottom drain must be left open to allow water out during freeze/thaw cycles.

Food scraps should go into only 1 compartment until full. Once full, the other compartment should have food scraps and garden waste added.

Depending on what is placed inside the composter, there may be excess liquid moisture, which slows down the compost process. The removable threaded cap allows gardeners to empty the excess liquid which is rich in nutrients and can also be used to fertilize flowers and plants.

To keep the water oxygenated, it needs to be circulated at least once every 2 hours. For example, a 2000 gallon pond would require at least a 1000 GPH pump.

Small ponds (without fish) should be emptied. Be sure to remove pumps and other pond accessories.

For larger ponds that don’t need to run through the winter, remove the pump(s) and accessories but leave the water in the pond. Make sure to remove any tubing to prevent damage.

Aquatic plants can be brought inside and placed in direct sunlight. Small fish will do well in an indoor aquarium.
